The Detroit Pistons have joined MEA and the Red Wings to support Michigan Reads, a program that encourages reading with special promotions at Michigan sporting events. All K-12 students are eligible for 2-for-1 tickets at either Pistons or Red Wings matches. As part of the Michigan Reads team, the Pistons are offering discount packages to students who qualify by reading five books and registering at http://www.michiganreads.com/ . The Red Wings are offering discounts too. Once students are registered and have read five books which parents, guardians or teachers have documented, students can pick which 2-for-1 ticket offer they prefer-the Red Wings or the Pistons. It's easy to get involved-register, read and catch the action!

For this exciting unit to work, I need two things from families: (1) please send me CLEAR 2 liter pop bottles with caps from now until after break (break homework will be to drink a 2L!!) (2) I am looking for one or two adult volunteers to take the bottles home and cut them so I can assemble the terrariums and aquariums for the kids. I have a great instruction sheet. Field Trip Tomorrow!!

Your Schedule for the Rouge Factory Tour~

Once at the factory, it is now a self guided tour through four sections. One advantage of this self guided method is that if the assembly line is down during part of the time you are there, you have the flexibility to navigate to see that part of the tour when the line is running.

8:50 a.m. Chaperone meeting with Mrs. Reepmeyer

9:00 a.m. Departure from BCS classes of Parkin/Wallington/Butzin/Frishman

10:00 a.m. Begin tour of the Ford Rouge Factory Tour

There are four stations to visit. Docents are located throughout the tour to explain exhibits.

As a group, you may choose to complete the history hunt at each station.
o Station 1 - The Legacy Theatre
o Station 2 - The Art of Manufacturing
o Station 3 - Observation Deck
o Station 4 - The Final Assembly Plant (TRY AND VISIT THIS FIRST IN YOUR GROUP AS THE LINE IS SUBJECT TO CLOSE AT A MOMENT’S NOTICE)

2. Enter your child's username and password and click Sign in. ( I emailed your child their password and username yesterday)

3. Navigate to your child's grade level.

This morning the 4th graders went to the Battle of the Books Launch in the Media Center. The Battle is such a great opportunity for the 4th graders. Students were given the list of books today on a book mark and can check out books in our media center, the public library, or purchase these from a book store.

Goal Setting due November 15th

A pink form and letter were sent home with your child on 11/7/11. Please make sure you and your child sign it! I will sign it when I receive the completed goals.

This morning the 4th graders went to the Battle of the Books Launch in the Media Center. The Battle is such a great opportunity for the 4th graders. Students were given the list of books today on a book mark and can check out books in our media center, the public library, or purchase these from a book store.

So, what have you been doing this summer???

I have been to Indianapolis, Indiana for a convention and a vacation. I had lots of fun. They have such a beautiful downtown with lots of fun things to do. I visited the zoo, the capital building, the mall, the riverwalk, and the museum. There was more to do, but I did not have time!

Now I am hard at work getting ready for the upcoming school year!

Math Practice

We are very excited to be able to offer your students the ability to practice their math skills over the summer on IXL, an interactive online math program that provides teachers, students and parents with valuable insight about our students' abilities. By using this system we will be able to view any of IXL's 37 reports, which include data on grade-level proficiency, trouble spots, and even progress toward meeting state and common core standards.

Students can access practice problems from grades 3-8 making it useful for both the student who wants to reinforce their skills from this year and for those students who would like to get a head start on the content they will be learning next year.

For math summer packet work this year we would like to encourage each student to practice their math skills for approximately thirty minutes each week. Each student will receive a username and password in their school emails by July 1^st and they will need to print out this information as school emails will be cleaned out during the summer. If you are travelling this summer and will not have access to the Internet please encourage your students to practice as much as they can.

We feel that IXL will be an invaluable tool to help your students reach their potential in math and look forward to following their progress over the next few months.

Locker and Cubby Clean-out is Wednesday, June 15th. EVERYONE needs a FEW plastic or paperbags!!!!

Wacky Recess is Friday.....our class voted to wear blue t-shirts!!!

Remember to wear gym/tennis shoes. Bring extra clothes in case you want to change!

Bring in a white t-shirt for an activity for the End of The Year Party!

Our kids will do tie-dye at the end-of-year school party --

Please have your child bring to school a WHITE T-SHIRT IN A ZIPLOC BAG no later than this Friday, 6/10/11. Shirts will be collected in each 3/4 homeroom.

**VERY IMPORTANT -- PLEASE LABEL ZIPLOC BAG AS FOLLOWS:
1) CHILD'S FIRST & LAST NAME
2) HOMEROOM TEACHER

Please note that t-shirts should be 100% cotton for dye colors to work best. Shirts do not have to be new, but they do have to be white. You can use an old white t-shirt, and/or the shirt can have screened writing/logos. For new white shirts, please wash & dry beforehand for dye colors to absorb better. If you purchase packaged undershirts, the brand Hanes works better for tie-dye projects than Fruit of the Loom. (TIP: packaged undershirts will shrink a lot, so buy a size up -- youth size 8-10 medium usually shrinks to fit 6-year-olds).

Please remember to send in the shirt and labeled ziploc bag no later than this Friday, 6/10 --

4th grade mathematics...turn in your Student Reference Book starting Wednesday, June 8th. Work on your Unit 12 review. The review is due Friday and the unusual Math test is Monday, June 13th.
